Homemade Play Dough

This was very easy to make. My son needed to make a double batch of blue, single batch of green and white for a project they are doing at school. Of course the project is due tomorrow and it is 11:00pm when we started making it.  So I advise to do this at a more sane hour of the day.

But.. needless to say, we were able to make all 3 batches in under 20 minutes. I was amazed at how it balled up so very quickly.

When making it, really heed to the instructions. It will burn quicker than you think. So be diligent in your mixing and burner temp.

I just may have to make some more of this with the kids to play here at home!!

1 cup white flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 cup water
1 tsp. vegetable oil

Various food colors

Directions:

–Measure the water. Add appropriate food coloring and then put in saucepan.
–Add all other ingredients.
–Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
–Cook until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a ball. It no longer should be sticky. DO NOT undercook or it will be sticky! DO NOT overcook or it will burn the pan.
–Remove from heat and put on a plate to cool. (we used bowls)
–When it is almost cool, place in sealed containers or zip-top bag.

Never thought I would be making my own play dough in my kitchen some day! (Especially at 11:00pm at night)
