November we put on an activity that included girls ages 8 and up for our church. Something new that the LDS church has been implementing including our daughters to attend. This idea started off as a super saturday type of event then evolved into something more. We had 120 in attendance. The sisters were able to purchase a kit (or extras if they wanted) for $6.00 We took on a major feat with lots of volunteers to put together approximately 150 kits. WOW That is alot of wood!!
The kits looked something like this (this was my interpretation/color choices)
My husband and son cut all the wood blocks one evening
Organized them by size and then we had lots of wonderful volunteers come and put the kits together. Each bock pile mentioned how many of each they needed from that pile and we did it in an assembly line.
It was a great morning sanding and organizing.
The day of the event, sisters came with either a dessert or a savory dish to share pot luck style for our lunch. We came together as a group and wanted to make memories in building nativities for our homes that would remind us of christ and also build connections with each other and our daughters/friends as we made these nativities. Christ is the reason for the season.
We played this video at the beginning of the event – Getting Into The Christmas Spirit – The True Meaning of Christmas
Then jumped right in with building our nativities. The ladies checked in at the front and picked up their prepaid for kit(s) and proceeded into the event.
The holly leaves were made from red construction paper and 2 different types of wrapping paper found at Hobby Lobby. This idea came from the blog THE HOUSE THAT LARS BUILT
We had a glue gun table set up that after they painted their pieces they could glue on the wings/stars/heads etc.
We then enjoyed a lunch!
It was an awesome event and I love how it turned out!! It was quite the undertaking and alot of organization however I would do it again in a heart beat!! It really brought the spirit of CHRISTmas to all of us! I couldn’t have done this with out a wonderful Relief Society presidency and volunteers!
