Another Blue & Gold banquet has come and gone! It was a FUN theme!! Gotta love pinterest and great leaders to put our heads together to make it happen each year!
Sharing our Blue & Gold with my readers. This year we had the boys help put together their own invitations. Above is what they assembled and took home to mom/dad a few weeks before the Blue & Gold. Printed 4×6 photos from Sam’s and had them tape to black card stock. Attached a mustache that I cut out of my silhouette machine to a straw and they cut their own slits into the invite. Very easy and cute!
Also a few weeks before the Blue& Gold We had a photo op with the boys & leaders. So we could make a photo wall at the banquet. Chad is the Cubmaster and I “was” the Pack Committee Chair. I have since “resigned” aka been released from this position in my church after serving for 8 years (4 years as the Committee Chair) and my NEW Pack Committee Chair is the fun gal standing behind me. I love this photo of the two of us 🙂 She is TONS of fun and I am excited she has taken my place. The boys are in GOOD hands!!
Here are the decorations from the event. I already owned red table cloths and the white square pieces- a sweet gal from my church was giving away fabric and we scooped it up. Chad cut them and serged them for me. What a great hubby!! He sews too!
Mustaches were cut from my silhouette. Paper products were all found from Walmart. Tin Cans with crepe paper around the center filled with marbles for the center pieces. Wooden food skewers used with paper mustaches cut out. I got to reuse my top hats!! From 4 years ago. This is my 3rd event using my top hats!! The 1st time I used them was for my Magic Themed Blue & Gold in 2011 – CLICK HERE
We filled them with peanuts for families to enjoy during the banquet while waiting for different events to happen. I have also used them for THANKSGIVING event and adding a band around them to make them Pilgrim hats. These Top hats have made their rounds in my decorations over the last few years. I keep everything!! 🙂
Been to the M.O.M.A. before (museum of modern art). Well we had our own piece of art wall. W.O.R.M. wall – Wall of Radical Mustaches 🙂 We printed out all the photos and randomly displayed them for a focal piece at the Blue & Gold. The Leaders and Boys LOVED IT!!
Also a few weeks prior we gave all the boys a poster board and some craft items to make a poster with the mustache theme to display at the Blue & Gold banquet. Anything they wished. The new Pack Committee Chair then judged them for the best poster. The winner the 3rd Poster I am sharing here “You MUSTache come to the blue & gold banquet” We had LOTS and LOTS of laughs looking at all the posters. They were so creative. Every boy won a certificate about their poster— some “Most Respectful Poster” “Most Colorful Poster” etc….. The winner of the poster then got a container filled with candy — I have a photo of that further down in this post.
Dinner was easy! We did this 2 years ago blue and gold banquet. Potato Bar- baked potatoes and every family brings 2 toppings. LOTS to choose from and was delicious!! Pack provided all the potatoes.
1st game was a hit– a play off of SIMON SAYS… however we played “Cubmaster says” And all the actions had to do with mustache or hair on your face. Chad drew a mustache on his finger and he had 4 actions he would do.
Mustache (under the nose) Unibrow (between his eyes) Sideburn (side of his head) Goatee (under his chin)
So he would have the kids/scouts follow him and if he DIDN’T say “Cubmaster says do this..” they were out. We played till we had 1 winner which is pictured above. They won a container with a mustache on it with candy in it.
I got the container from the Dollar Tree and used black vinyl to cut out a mustache and filled it with yummy candy. We used 3 of them during the night for different events won.
Our 2nd event was team work effort. Chad and I were not in charge of this event. Our new Pack Committee Chair was- and she “PRESELECTED” leaders– yes.. US!! HAHA I should have seen it coming. So Chad and I were a team along with 3 other scout teams. The person in the front were the legs, person in the back were the arms and we were instructed to do different things– including shaving a mustache. Shaving Cream was NOT used instead it was whipping cream and a large Popsicle stick as the razor. It was SOOO MUCH FUN!! You can see all the laughter!! I loved this!!
Final activity was a SPEED competition. Each family was to bring an undecorated cake- and work as a team with their OWN decorations/frostings/candies etc. To create a mustache themed cake. They were given 15 minutes. It was TONS OF EXCITEMENT. Also- it ends up being our dessert at the end of the night too 🙂 Everyone competed as a family unit on their cakes. They were then judged by a member of our church and during award ceremonies they were announced 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 1st place was given a mug of candy 2nd and 3rd place was given a little baggie of candy. After the entire event was over everyone got to dig in and have different cakes to enjoy/try.
Last but not least. We had our award ceremony. Giving out all the awards the scouts have been working on for the last month. We also had 1 boy crossing over from Webelos to 11 Yr old Boy Scouts. 🙂 Our bridge isn’t anything too exciting. 3 cement bricks and a wood board 🙂 However its all about the symbolic of crossing over.
And as always- opening and closing of the banquet with a flag ceremony!
I couldn’t have pulled off this banquet with out LOTS of help from so many!! All the professional photos in this blog post were taken from our wonderful Bishop in our church. He is so talented and agreed to capture this for me and our scouts! THANK YOU BISHOP!!
The non-professional photos were just a few that I snapped on my phone when I could. 🙂 It was a busy night with lots of memories made!! I am so sad that I am no longer Pack Committee Chair. I will stay on as a Committee Member and help out when asked to serve. My new calling in the church- I will more than likely be blogging about 🙂 Relief Society Enrichment Coordinator. I will be helping with each month’s events. Lots to share with that calling.
Boy Scouts of America is where my heart will always be and glad I can stay on as a Committee Member and not hang up my uniform just yet. Chad is still the Cubmaster for the time being however he has been Cubmaster 4 years as well and I think his time is coming to a near end soon too!
Thanks for allowing me to share our special night!
nothing but awesomeness here.
